Memorial Day has come and gone. Have you given thought to the lives that were given for your freedom?
Too many, these days, have completely lost sight of what freedom is in the first place. Since the Vietnam war, we have thought that ANY soldier who dies has died unnecessarily. Those who grieve the loss are victims of the government's wasteful practices and insensitivities. The will to fight against any and all enemies, foreign and domestic, has waned and all but disappeared. We are now valuing life at the expense of freedom, comfort at the expense of righteousness, and we have lost our way as a result.
Don't misunderstand me. My point is that I value the freedom that so many have sacrificed their lives for. I remember their sacrifice. I cry with the sacrifice of their families at their loss. I just finished (on Memorial Day, mind you) the book "We Were Soldiers Once; and Young" - by Hal Moore, LTG (Ret) and Joe Galloway. I suggest you read it. You will connect with those who feel the pain of losing a soldier in battle. It is the single greatest book on the subject I have read to date. One of the strong points is that the pain of death does not completely overshadow the purpose of war. I am not a war-monger. But I am a patriot and a Christian. My faith promises me a better life on the other side of the grave than this one. My privilege as an American is to stand up for this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
I wonder, with that in mind, if our greatest enemy is not foreign but domestic. The political scene (if you will call arrogant judges "politicians"), the liberal bias of the news media, and the immorality of Hollywood all work together to wear the American people down morally and patriotically to the point where the Constitution our military and government are sworn to protect and uphold is no longer the central focus and has become impotent. Our enemy is right here within our borders. When will we truly honor those who have fought and died bravely against such a domestic enemy as these?
