FW: Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Today's news is "Two Steps Forward" and "One Step Back" as we look at three headlines you won't find in most places.  The steps forward are great news for those who cannot speak or will not be heard.  The step back is in reference to the silliness of our politicians in the White House who think that today's problems are solved by yesterday's mistakes.  Let me take one at a time and I'll explain.

1.  Step Forward - Ariz. governor signs pro-life bills

According to The Arizona Republic, the Republican chief executive enacted legislative initiatives that:
-- Mandate a 24-hour waiting period before a woman can have an abortion.
-- Require parental consent prior to an underage girl undergoing an abortion.
-- Prohibit partial-birth abortions, which are performed on nearly totally delivered babies normally in at least the fifth month of pregnancy.
-- Protect pro-life health-care workers from being forced to participate in abortions or to prescribe Plan B, a "morning-after" pill that has abortifacient qualities.

Now, that’s great stuff.  It certainly isn’t “politically correct,” but it is a step forward.

2.  Step Forward - Poll: N.H. voters oppose 'gay marriage' law

The poll shows that by a margin of 49-41 percent, New Hampshire likely voters disapprove of the law that made the state the sixth nationwide to legalize "marriage" for homosexual couples. Ten percent are undecided. The poll was conducted by Research 2000 for the liberal blog DailyKos.com, a fact that conservatives say only adds to the poll result's validity. The polling company interviewed 600 likely voters from July 13-15.

That’s another step forward.  Funny how even liberal polls are starting to reveal that they AREN’T the majority they think they are in many things.  The report, however, is considered to be “low” in that when taken to the ballot, usually people vote 5-6 points higher than these polls reveal.  Why?  Because too many are afraid to tell where they stand, but given anonymity, they will stand on the side of decency.  I’m glad to hear it.

3.  Step Backward Clinton Declares the U.S. to be ‘Back’ in Asia; Signs Regional Non-Aggression Treaty

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday was to sign a non-aggression pact with a group of Southeast Asian nations, committing the United States to “renunciation of the threat or use of force” and to non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

The Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) to be signed by Clinton in Thailand includes a provision that no party shall “in any manner or form participate in any activity which shall constitute a threat to the political and economic stability, sovereignty, or territorial integrity of another.”

That’s  a step backward.  It’s defeatist and silly to think that we will lay down our own nation’s defense in recognition of another’s sovereignty, political stability, economic situation, or territorial integrity.  What happens when those things threaten our nation?  Our well-being?  Our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness?  It’s the Viet-Nam-era mistake of tying the hands of the defense of the nation in hopes of appeasing an unappeasable enemy.  It didn’t work in Asia before.  It won’t fix today’s problem, either.  We’ll never fix today’s problems with yesterday’s  mistakes.
