Yes, everyone is talking about it – the Ft. Hood Massacre. Guess I’ll chime in, too.
One of the interesting notes is that this man, MAJ Nidal Malik Hassan, was a strong Muslim. Violence against our country comes in many forms, and Islam is only one of them; but make no mistake, it is one of them. MAJ Hassan was noted to be staunchly anti-US activity in the Middle East. So are countless other Americans. But those countless other Americans don’t massacre unarmed people. What is the real tragedy here?
I don’t want to insult the more sensible Muslims in America, but I do want to tell the truth. Our war is not against Islam, say our politicians; our war is against terrorism. Terrorism is not the method of Christianity. Nor is it the method of Judaism. Terrorism is the method of Islam. To confuse the issue a bit, terrorism is also the method of the Hindus of India against Christianity. But have they merely adopted the methods of Islam because they sense there is great victory for those who practice such methods of control? Nevertheless, Hassan is right at some level – our war is with Islam. However, the truth is, our (USA) stated and demonstrated position is not the abolition of Islam, rather the abolition of those who practice, teach, or assist in terrorism.
The tragedy is the tragedy of the times – our failure to distinguish our goals, to articulate our purposes, and to take a firm stand without apologies. I, for one, will also take a stand – without apology – in spite of the fact that I am a soldier. In a day when soldiers are not allowed opinions or stands, I shall take one anyway. My stand is for Christ. I will stand for the love of God, and seek no harm to anyone. Justice is one thing, wanton and undeserved massacre is another. God demonstrated his love to us in this, while we were enemies of God, He sent His Son to die for us, that we might be redeemed. May I stand for that approach and demonstrate my love to others, in that while they are my enemy, I will give everything to redeem them! That would turn tragedy into triumph.
Holler for Jesus,
Greg Yount
