One of the students at Bakersfield High (MO) was killed a few hours ago in a car accident. For posterity's sake, I'll name her - Beth Pry. Her family was hit by similar tragedy not too long ago when their Mom was also killed in a vehicle accident. Beth was a bright young 15 year-old, with a quick and pretty smile. She chose her friends wisely, and really had a great future. I will miss her - and find Bakersfield with a hole in it when I return from Iraq in the Spring. Such a tragedy.
God, however, took one of the biggest of human tragedies and turned it into a triumph - all so everyone could experience that same triumph.
The tragedy? The cruel, unjustified, and unmitigated butchery of a man from Galilee who preached God's love, hope, and solution to man's sinful condition; they hung Jesus Christ on a cross until he died. The tragedy is that sin always brings death.
The triumph? Jesus was not so easily defeated! Crucifixion could not prevent resurrection! Jesus, no matter how many people denied it, is the Living God of Heaven and Earth! Through His death, those who trust it to pay for their sins will find those sins forgiven. Through His Resurrection, those who trust Jesus to bring heaven to them will find it - and will find themselves eternally in heaven! Death can't prevent a believer's resurrection, either!
No tragedy, such as Beth's accident, is without some triumph. It is my prayer, my earnest prayer, that those so wounded in heart will find their bleeding hearts healed and filled with faith in Jesus Christ - and that would be a great triumph, indeed! Imagine this: God allowed this tragedy into our lives so we can experience His triumph over our own sin; putting to death the sin in our lives - and later the death we will face - and bringing real faith to Bakersfield!
Will you allow that triumph into your life? Will you invite Jesus, the Living Lord, to come into your life and forgive you of your sins; will you ask Him to guide you into all eternity, beginning right now? Ask Him, and you will be saved!
