Reading the News today, I came across this headline at the MBC Pathway: ACLU withdraws objection to Franklin County prayer. This is good and bad news for the folks in Franklin County.
The good news is the ACLU is off their backs for the time being. That’s always good news. The ACLU, however “good” its intentions, wreaks havoc on our nation’s relationship with the Living God of Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ. Wherever He is glorified publicly, the ACLU will be sure to step in and shut that down. Getting them to back off, however, has its problems.
That’s the bad news for Franklin County… and all places where the ACLU is somehow satisfied to relinquish the fight. When the ACLU backs off, it’s because pluralism has become the law of the locale. Pluralism means devotion to Jesus is NOT whole-hearted, faith is NOT genuine, and UNITY of faith is NOT accepted. The very nature of pluralism empties the power of prayer from the governments who want an invocation and/or benediction. Let me explain how.
Jesus said that anything agreed on in His name by two or three people would be provided for them if it is according to His Will. But if we promote prayers in the name of someone else, this is void. If we get so pluralistic as to say that what is not Christian is just as good, we lower Him to a lesser god, and raise them to a higher god – neither of which is true. Jesus does not honor lies. He honors truth. So the governing board, council, or body that accepts a pluralistic invocation cannot truly hope to have the full power of heaven behind them – and their prayers are emptied of power and purpose. Just think about hoping for the power of God to be poured out on you because you prayed – to your pencil! That’s ridiculous. God wants us to come to Him – and to make Him our God over all others!
Let us not be so foolish as to believe that public pluralism is as good as powerful Christianity!
