How Far We Have Come?

Today's headlines on FoxNews.com tell quite a tale when taken together.  Any one of today's stories reveals a travesty of morality, but taken together the story is downright frightening.  Consider the headlines:

Of course, some would stop right there and complain that the news is negative - and they are tired of negativity.  That attitude is what has helped get us into this situation and constitutes nothing more than ignoring the truth in order to perpetuate personal happiness.  Well, happiness is NOT what founded our nation.  Great men forsook their happiness to enable the pursuit of happiness for others.  The late Paul Harvey once said something along these lines, "Self rule is impossible without self discipline."  Too many define "happiness" as "abandoning all the rules to do whatever is pleasing for the moment - regardless of the consequences in the moment afterward."  But I stray.
How far has that brought our nation since that became the mantra of mankind?

Follow the story of the headlines:  Our political correctness has led us to apologize to our enemies for offending them while they murder our citizens and representatives.  If one speaks out against our enemies, one must hide for his life.  Meanwhile, we must betray our friends in front of the watching world.  Our liberal press cannot even pause their pursuit of pleasure to honor those who died at the hands of our praised enemies.  Our out-of-control spending may be self-limiting eventually as our credit rating may be cut beyond all hope of future loans.  Our education system is rank with sexual perversion stories.  Even the administration of schools is not immune to the ridiculous rancor of political correctness.  There is no safety in anything public if these headlines are true.  Our government, our press, our education system, and our financial status cannot provide Americans with any security.

Now, pause to think of where we started.  Back in the day, when our nation was in its infancy, a man stood  up for what was right, fought for freedom of speech, and opposed the enemies of the nation with life and fortune.  Racism was about the color of your skin, not about normal separation of good and evil.  Self-discipline was expected, and a man's word was his bond.  Friends were tight, and those who betray them were called traitors.  Illicit sexual activity was abnormal, and its punishment was very stiff.  Banks didn't loan money when there was little chance of getting it back.  The country did not spend money it did not have, and it did not regard the money it did have as anything more than "the people's money."

How did we get this far?  I believe it can be traced back to the days when people began living a "religious" life rather than living in a relationship with Jesus Christ.  I believe it can be traced back to the days when abandoning the true principles of walking with Jesus in exchange for a "cultural Christianity" devoid of any real meaning.  I believe we began our descent into the moral abyss and confusion when we decided that God  - especially Jesus Christ - was to be removed from our society.  We have effectually removed God from the classroom (where teachers have sex with students, teach sexual promiscuity, and principals cannot distinguish what racism is).  We have effectually removed God and Jesus Christ from the government (where to speak against an enemy is now worse than having the enemy kill its citizens, and our President's political party can barely stomach the mention of God).  We have effectually removed God and Jesus Christ from the press (where news agencies cannot pause to remember the single largest atrocity to face our nation in our history). We have effectually removed God and Jesus Christ from our marketplace (where to control our nation's spending means we stop borrowing before our lenders stop lending - a biblical principle).  Yes, we have removed Christ from our lives, and our lives are falling apart.  Any surprise?
