The "Chemistry" of Modern Morality

In chemistry class, some substances dissolve in others.  The “solute” is the dissolved substance and the “solvent” is the substance that the solute is dissolved into.  Oil and water do not mix, but oil based substances will dissolve in oil; likewise, water based substances dissolve in water.  The church, and her beliefs are like oil and water – they do not mix.  But the ability of the world’s immorality to dissolve the political will and moral resolve of our nation through the varied arsenal of attacks on traditional Christianity and common sense is startling.  Today, the Supreme Court of the US has stricken the Defense of Marriage Act – which was congressionally approved and signed into law by the President of the United States – and declared marriage as something totally nebulous and arbitrary in the sight of the “state.”  Now, federal funds are available for any “couple” who wants them – without limitations of definition as to what constitutes a “couple” or “marriage.”

Modern morality has taken a striking turn away from biblical norms.  Our nation has forsaken her roots in favor of modern.  She ignores, mocks, and outcasts all voices of reason, concern, or clear common sense.  Fewer and fewer Americans are reading their Bibles – and biblical illiteracy is at an all-time high in America.  No surprise that the church is at an all-time low in attendance and adherents.  What we “think” is right is what we accept as right – collectively.  We have redefined terms such as morality, marriage, love, truth, tolerance, respect, justice, decency, faith, and many others.  This has happened in the midst of strong Bible preaching, Christian service and love, conservative voices in all levels of public policy, and the like.  Why?  Because once you separate a building from its foundation, it crumbles.  The crumbled remains of our national conscience is dissolved by modern morality.  Only those who are firmly anchored to the foundation of Biblical faith find themselves unable to be dissolved by this powerful solvent of liberalism and modern morality.

I would like to discuss the specifics – all the ways Christianity has been distorted, attacked, disrespected, and disregarded these days, but that would simply be boring and repetitive.  Therefore, I simply say that the Bible has never been more relevant to life today than it is now – and that will only continue as those who live by it will be enemies of our world system in growing ways and numbers.  The Bible, however, declares ultimate victory to those who accept the Jesus of the Bible in the way of faith and lifelong trust – something that will not be dissolved by the world.
